Blood typing and analysis Flashcards
red blood cells
carry oxygen from the lungs and deliver it throughout our body.
white blood cells
protecting your body from infection
plasma
take nutrients, hormones, and proteins to the parts of the body that need it
platelets
to prevent and stop bleeding
what is the relationship between antigens and antibody’s
When an antigen enters the body, it stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies.
group ‘A’ Blood type
has only the A antigen on red cells and B antibody in plasma
group ‘B’ blood type
has only the B antigen on red cells and A antibody in plasma
group ‘AB’ blood type
has A and B antigens on red cells( but neither a nor b antibody in plasma)
group O blood type
has neither A nor B on red cells (but both A and B antibody in plasma
how to determine a persons blood type
blood samples are mixed with A and B antibodies to see if the blood cells stick together
positive control
a group in an experiment that receives treatment with a known result
negative control
something that elicits no response when administered to the control subjects.
presumptive test
by production of color or light, indicates the presence of a body fluid
confirmatory test
performed on a different sample, or aliquot, taken from the same specimen and is used to determine the type and quantity of drug or drug metabolite present in the sample
hemogloblin
a two-way respiratory carrier, transporting oxygen from the lungs to the tissues and facilitating the return transport of carbon dioxide.
