Blood Supply, Gas Exchange, Ventialtion & Perfusion Flashcards
What is the difference between alveloi at the top of the lungs than at the bottom?
Alveoli at the top of the lung are already more expanded than at the bottom.
Alveoli at the base start off smaller and expand more. In apex alveoli are already expanded at start of inspiration so bottom alveoli are therefore more compliant.
Describe pulmonary circulation
High flow and low pressure
Takes the same amount of time as one loop of systemic.
What pp values reflects lungs
PaO2-100mmHg/ 13.3kPa
PaCO2-40mmHg/5.3kPa
What pp values reflect tissues
PvO2- 40mmHg/ 5.3 kPa
PvCO2- 46mmHg/6.2kPa
What gas is more soluble in water and why does that matter?
CO2 is more soluble this accounts for the large difference in gradient and small difference
Describe the transport of CO2 in blood?
7%-Undissolved
70%- Combines with erythrocytes
23%- With water to form carbimo compounds
What happens when CO2 combines with erythrocytes ?
Combine with deoxyhaemoglobin to form carbonic acid. Most bicarb moves out of the erythrocytes in exchange for CL- ions
