Blood Supply, Gas Exchange, Ventialtion & Perfusion Flashcards

1
Q

What is the difference between alveloi at the top of the lungs than at the bottom?

A

Alveoli at the top of the lung are already more expanded than at the bottom.
Alveoli at the base start off smaller and expand more. In apex alveoli are already expanded at start of inspiration so bottom alveoli are therefore more compliant.

Q

What happens when CO2 combines with erythrocytes ?

A

Combine with deoxyhaemoglobin to form carbonic acid. Most bicarb moves out of the erythrocytes in exchange for CL- ions
