Blood pH regulation station Flashcards
1
Q
What is pH
A
Measure of hydrogen ion concentration in solution to determine if a solution is acidic or alkaline
More H+ions the more acidic
2
Q
Why does the regulation of pH of body fluids needed
A
Due to metabolism producing insane H+ ions, this makes blood acidic and enzymes cant function with those pH conditions
3
Q
what is a buffer?????????????????
A
A chem substance that prevents too great of a change in pH by binding with H+ when pH drops and releasing H+ when pH rises
4
Q
What are some types of buffers
A
Bicarbonate , Phosphate ,ammonia
5
Q
Why are buffers needed
A
they get rid of H+ ions and regulates pH (homeostasis)
