What is RHD?
‘Rhesus factor D’
Everyone has a type of rhesus antigen on the surface of their red blood cells. These are called RHD antigens.
This is denoted as ‘+’ or ‘-‘.
Example-
• Type B Rh+ = B+
• Type B Rh- = B-
What happens if a Rh- gets Rh+ blood?
An immune reaction will take place as the blood has antibodies against it.
What are the dominant blood groups?
• A is dominant over O
• B is dominant over O
• If your parents have the same blood type, you will have that blood type.
What do antigens indicate in blood groups?
What blood the person is compatible with as their immune system won’t attack that blood group.
What to antibodies indicate in blood groups?
What blood the person is not compatible with. Initiating an immune reaction.
What antigens and antibodies does blood group A have?
• Antigens - A
• Antibodies - Anti B
