Blood Clot Flashcards
Serotonin
This causes the smooth muscle of the blood vessels to contract
Thromboplastin
An enzyme that starts a sequence of chemical changes that clot blood
Step 1 of blood clot
Cut occurs
Step 2 of blood clot
Exposed collagen in blood vessels
Step 3 of blood clot
Platelets increase
Step 4 of blood clot
Release thromboplastin
Step 5 of blood clot
Vit K makes prothrombin
Step 6 of blood clot
The Calcium makes thrombin form
Step 7 of blood clot
Fibrinogen released
Step 8 of blood clot
Fibrin forms a mesh
Step 9 of blood clot
The cut dries to form a scab
Why is blood clotting important?
It prevents excess blood loss and the entry of diseases that can cause pathogens and it seals the blood vessels
What does the Scab do?
It protects the new skin growing beneath it
Advantage of storing thromboplastin inside platelets
Keep thromboplastin away from thrombin
Won’t be converted to thrombin
the blood clotting process is prevented
to have thromboplastin available/ released quickly
