Block 6 - Phase 1 Firefighting Fundamentals Flashcards
Primary Goal of a firefighter?
Primary : Save lives
Secondary : fight fires and prevent damage
What makes a fire triangle?
Oxygen, heat, fuel
What makes it a fire tetrahedron?
A chemical chain reaction.
How many types of fire?
4 types of fire: Class alpha Class bravo Class Charlie Class delta
What is a Class Alpha fire?
Organic material (wood, paper products, cloth, anything that produces ash)
Effective agents: H2O, CO2, AFFF
What is a Class Bravo fire?
Fuels (flammable liquids like gasoline, oil)
Effective agents: AFFF, Halon, PKP, CO2
What is a Class Charlie fire?
Electrical (energized)
Effective agents: CO2, Halon, PKP, H2O Fog Pattern 4ft
What is a Class Delta fire?
Combustible metals (magnesium and titanium)
Effect agents: large amounts of H2O, jettison
Define AFFF?
Aqueous Film Forming Foam
Requires six-percent concentrate
How does CO2 affect fires?
Fire suppression is accomplished by the displacement of oxygen to below the level that is required to support combustion.
What is another name for Halon 1211?
Bromo- chloro-difluoro-methane
What is another name PKP?
Potassium Bicarbonate, purple k powder, PKP
