Block 10 Phase III - Search and Kill Stores Flashcards
What is the Stores Management System (SMS)?
Manages the release, carriage, control, data transfer, and required interface of the kill stores and search stores.
What is the Stores Management Control (SMC)?
Controls and releases the kill stores and search stores, the control over sub-systems that support the employment of stores and interfacing with the Mission Computing and Display System (MCDS)
What is the Stores Management Computer?
Central control point for the SMS and performs the integration role of SMS functions. Provides interface with the flight deck, weapons control panel, MCDS, and ten stations control units
What is the Stores Management Weapons Control Panel
Provides the application of power to the armament and search stores subsystem. Provides controls to release sonobuoys, select the type of jettisons desired, and execute the jettison cycle. Also allows to open and close weapons bay door
What is the Stores Management MCDS - Ordnance Power?
Controls SNS, collects statuses, provides necessary data for the SMS to function and provide interface , through which the operator can input commands and observe the SMS
What is the Stores Management Control Wheel Release Switch?
Allows the pilot and co-pilot to release weapons from the flight deck.
What is the APS and it’s function
Aft Pneumatic Source
Provides dry, pressurized air for use by the Sonobuoy Launching System (SLS) and the weapons bay Bomb Rack Units (BRU)
What are the components of the weapon Bay stores and what do they provide?
Station Control Units (SCU): control interface between weapon bay and stores management
Isolation Valves: allow for isolation of pneumatic source to the BRUs (Bomb Rack Unit)
BRUs: Have the necessary suspension and arming hardware to carry and release ordnance
What is the SLS and what are its components?
Sonobuoy Launching System
Station Control Unit (SCU)
Sonobuoy Rotary Launcher (SRL)
Single Sonobuoy Launcher (SSL)
Sonobuoy Launch Tubes (SLT)
Gate Valve
Away Sensors
Storage Racks
What is the Sonobuoy Rotary Launcher (SRL)?
Capable of suspending and rapidly launching 10 sonobuoy mounted in a rotary carousel. Each launcher is contained in a pressure cell. There are 3 on aircraft
What is the Single Sonobuoy Launcher (SSL)?
Capable of suspending and releasing individual sonobuoy. Allows sonobuoy to be launched quickly without having to be loaded into a rotary launcher. There are 3 on the aircraft
What is the Sonobuoy Launch Tubes (SLT
Each Launcher is attached to an SLT. Provide a path for the sonobuoy to leave the aircraft
What is the Gate Valve?
Installed in each Sonobuoy Launch Tube (SLT) which prevent aircraft pressure loss during launcher reload operations in flight
What is the Away Sensors?
Monitor the sonobuoy and give system indications during sonobuoy release. There are 2 per Sonobuoy Rotary Launcher (SRL), and 1 per Single Sonobuoy Launcher (SSL)
What is the Storage Racks?
Stows extra sonobuoys aft of the main deck area. Can hold up to 48 extra sonobuoys
What is the Free Fall Chute?
Gives the ability to drop marine location markers (MLM), and sound underwater signals from the unpressurized aircraft
What is the Wing Pylons?
Externally mounted structures that house the components for the carriage and release of weapons and stores
What is the Forward Fuselage Stores?
A system consists of equipment and accessories necessary for loading, carrying, and releasing ordnance from the forward bomb racks
Kill Stores consists of what items?
Torpedoes, mines, bombs, rockets, and guided missiles
What is an Air to Ground Missile (AGM)?
Air-launched missiles used against surface targets such as ships and ground targets
What is a Air-Launched Training Missile (ATM)?
Air-launched training missiles with non-exploding warheads
What is a Captive Air Training Missile (CATM)?
Used for pilot training in aerial target acquisition and aircraft controls/displays. Not launched
Used for pilot training in aerial target acquisition and aircraft controls/displays. Not launched
Ground training missiles that are used to train ground personnel in missile assembly/disassembly, uploading/downloading, and handling procedures
What is a MK 56 Mine?
2,000-pound class mine equipped with a firing system that responds, singly or in combination to the acoustic, magnetic/pressure influence of a passing ship
What is a MK 62 Mine (Quick-Strike)?
500-pound class, air-laid, influence-actuated bottom mine for use against submarines and surface targets
What is a MK 63 Mine (Quick-Strike)?
1000-pound class, air-laid, influence-actuated bottom mine for use against submarines and surface targets
What is a MK 65 Mine?
2000-pound class, air-laid, influence-actuated bottom mine for use against submarines and surface targets
What torpedo is carried by the P-8?
MK54
