Block 4 Pharmacology Flashcards
Hydroxocobalamin - class
Vitamin B12 precursor
Hydroxocobalamin - MoA
Cofactor for conversion of L-methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA.
Hb production, fat and carbohydrate metabolism and myelin formation.
Hydroxocobalamin - uses
Pernicious anaemia and B12 deficiency
Folic acid - class
Vitamin B family member
Folic acid - MoA
Stimulates haematopoiesis and is DNA precursor.
Folic acid - uses
Folic acid deficiency and megaloblastic anaemia.
Ferrous sulphate - class
Iron
Ferrous sulphate - MoA
Production of Hb
Ferrous sulphate - uses
Iron-deficiency anaemia
Azathioprine - class
Purine synthesis inhibitor
Azathioprine - MoA
Converted to mercaptopurine, which inhibits DNA synthesis -> prevents clonal proliferation.
Incorporation of thiopurine in DNA structure -> chain termination and cytotoxicity.
Azathioprine - uses
RA, transplant rejections and Crohn’s.
Cyclosporine - class
Immunosuppressant - cyclophilin inhibitor
Cyclosporine - MoA
Binds to cyclophilin and inhibits calcineurin, which inhibits IL-2 transcription -> reduces proliferation of T cells.
Cyclosporine - uses
Transplant rejections and RA
Clopidogrel - class
ADP antagonist
