bleomycin, mityomycin (cytotoxic abx) Flashcards
bleomycin does not cause…
bone marrow depression (nor does vincristine)
mitomycin + vincristine/vinorelbine
increased risk of severe bronchospasm
which reactions have been reported
Pulmonary reactions, including interstitial pneumonitis, pulmonary fibrosis, and pulmonary toxicity have been reported.
Pulmonary toxicity occurs more frequently in (2)
over 70s
received total doses >400 units
what to do if pulmonary changes occur
If pulmonary changes occur, discontinue treatment and investigate.
bleomycin contraception
during and 6 months after
bleomycin/mitomycin + cisplaitn
Cisplatin increases the risk of pulmonary toxicity when given with Bleomycin. Manufacturer advises caution.
Bleomycin or mitomycin-containing cytotoxic regimens might affect the concentration of these AEDs. Manufacturer advises avoid.
fosphenytoin
phenytoin
Mitomycin is usually administered at 6-weekly intervals because?
it causes delayed bone-marrow toxicity. Prolonged use may result in a cumulative effect
common unusual SE
fever (after administration); fingertip swelling; fingertip tenderness
