Bleeding Flashcards
1
Q
Tranexamic acid
Indications
A
- Local fibrinolysis
- Menorrhagia
- Hereditary angioedema
- Epistaxis (nose bleed)- 1g TDS
- Prevention and treatment of significant haemorrhage following trauma
2
Q
Tranexamic acid
MOA
A
- Anti-haemorrhagic activity by inhibiting fibrinolytic properties of plasmin
- The activity of tranexamic acid-plasmin complex on the activity on fibrin is lower than the activity of free plasmic alone
3
Q
Tranexamic acid
adverse effects
A
- Thrombosis
- N&V
- Seizure (more common at high doses)
- Visual changes
4
Q
Tranexamic acid
Warnings
A
- Contraindications
- Fibrinolytic conditions following disseminated intravascular coagulation (unless pre-dominant activation of the fibrinolytic system with severe bleeding)
- History of convulsions
- Thromboembolic disease
- Cautions
- Irregular menstrual bleeding (Establish cause first)
- Haematuria
- Receiving oral contraceptives (Increased risk of thrombosis )
5
Q
Tranexamic acid
Interactions
A
- Contraceptive pills- increased the risk of thrombus formation
