A
  • Local fibrinolysis
  • Menorrhagia
  • Hereditary angioedema
  • Epistaxis (nose bleed)- 1g TDS
  • Prevention and treatment of significant haemorrhage following trauma

MOA

A
  • Anti-haemorrhagic activity by inhibiting fibrinolytic properties of plasmin
  • The activity of tranexamic acid-plasmin complex on the activity on fibrin is lower than the activity of free plasmic alone

  • Thrombosis
  • N&V
  • Seizure (more common at high doses)

Warnings

A
  • Contraindications
    • Fibrinolytic conditions following disseminated intravascular coagulation (unless pre-dominant activation of the fibrinolytic system with severe bleeding)
    • History of convulsions
    • Thromboembolic disease
  • Cautions
    • Irregular menstrual bleeding (Establish cause first)
    • Haematuria
    • Receiving oral contraceptives (Increased risk of thrombosis )
