What is visible light
The range of wavelengths we perceive as different colours
What does each colour have
It’s own range of wavelengths (and frequencies ) ranging from violets at 400nm to reds at 700nm
What are the only colours you can’t make by mixing primary colours
Red
Blue
Green
What happens when all the different colours are put together
It creates white light
What are objects
Objects that don’t transmit light
When visible light waves hit them they absorb some wavelengths of light and reflect others
What does the colour of an opaque object depend on
Which wave lengths of light are most strongly reflected and the colours not seen are absorbed
What happens for opaque objects that aren’t a primary colour
May be reflecting either wavelength of light corresponding to that colour or the wavelength of primary colours that can mix together to make that colour
What do white objects reflect
All the wavelength of visible light equally
What is a black objects do
Absorb all wavelength of visible light
your eyes see black as the lack of any visible light
What do transparent( see through) or translucent (partially see through) objects do
Transmit light e.g. not all the like that hits the surface of the object is absorbed or reflected some can pass through
What is a transparent or translucent objects colour
Related to the wavelength of light transmitted and reflected by it
What are colour filters used for
To filter out different wavelength of light so that only certain colours are transmitted the rest are absorbed
What is a primary colour filter
Only transmits the primary colours
What would happen if a blue filter was used on a red object
The object would appear black as all of the lights by the object would be absorbed by the filter
What do filters the answer primary colours do
Let through both the wavelength of light for that colour and the wavelength of the primary colours that can be added together to make that colour
