BIOSPHERE (Major biomes) Flashcards
ABIOTIC?
BIOTIC?
Abiotic: 🔹Lithos, hydros, atmosp (Non-living) BIOTIC 🔸plants, animals, microbes 🔸consist small functional units called ecosystem.
ECOSYSTEM?
🔸self sustaining strutural
🔸functional units
🔸large or small
🔸exchange of energy and material b/w adjoining ecosystem(natural or artificial)
📍NATURAL: forests, grasslands, deserts and Hillsides
📍Artificial: man made, croplands, garden, parks and aquarium.
BIOMES?
BIOME?
▪scientists organise earth’s ecosystem into defined categories
👉Biomes
▪️based on climate and geographical conditions.
➕BIOME:
🔺where plant and animal are adapted accor to range of temp and moisture conditions.
🔺scientists defines biomes by climate.
BIMOES’S CATEGORIES?
TERRESTRIAL 🌳🌲
AQUATIC 💦
OCEANIC 🌊
Teresterial Biomes?
🌳🌲TERRESTRIAL BIOMES: 🔺Determine by the temperature and percitipation throughout the year. 📌temperate biomes: 🔸located in mid-lati, colder and drier. 📌tropical biomes: 🔸close to the equator, warmer and wetter.
AQUATIC BIOMES?
☑️also called water based ecosystem
☑️strongly influenced by the distance they are from sunlight
📌FRESHWATER BIOMES:
🔺aquatic system founds on continents, where water isn’t salty.
🔺include streams and river lake and ponds, wetlands.
OCEANIC BIOMES?
🌟Distance from the shore and depth from the surface defines biomes in the oceans.
➕Oceanographer use “Zone” to define ecosystem of oceans.
(I.P.B.A)
📌INTERDIAL ZONE:
🔸area covered & uncoverd by tides daily, home to unique ecosys.
🚩barnacles, mussels, crabs, stars.
📌PLAGIC ZONE: 🔸upper layer of sea water ➕Euphotic zone: where sunlight penetrates to a depth of 200m 🚩fish, whales and dolphins ➕Bathyal Zone: below 200m 🔸less sunlight than Euphotic 🔸"Disphotic zone"
📌BENTHIC ZONE:
🔸found at seafloor
🚩sea weed, fish, fungi, Bacteria
📌ABYSSAL ZONE: 🔸⛔️sunlight, darkest depth 🔸"Aphotic Zone" 🔸organisms here are adapted to dark 🔸some create energy through "Chemosynthesis", chemical🔄energy
BIOSPHERE?
🔺life supporting zone
🔺Atmos➕Hydros➕Litho meet and interact and make life possible
