BIOSCI 101 CAC Flashcards
What Happens in Stage 1 of the CAC?
Acetyl group added to oxaloacetate, CoA-SH removed.
What Happens in Stage 2 of the CAC?
Isocitrate produced, this stage is very sensitive to free radicals.
What Happens in Stage 3 of the CAC?
Isocitrate converted to alpha ketoglutarate, CO2 removed, NAD reduced to NADH.
What Happens in Stage 4 of the CAC?
Converted to succinyl coA, CO2 removed, NAD reduced to NADH.
What Happens in Stage 5 of the CAC?
CoA removed to give succinate, Pi added to GDP to produce GTP, ATP formed.
What Happens in Stage 6 of the CAC?
Enzyme fixed in place, succinate oxidised to fumarate, FAD reduced to FADH2.
What Happens in Stage 7 of the CAC?
Water added to fumarate to produce malate.
What Happens in Stage 8 of the CAC?
Malate converted to oxaloacetate, NAD converted to NADH.
