Q

What is the purpose of the hypothalamus?

Releases cortisol + glucose

18
Q

What do the testes release?

A

Androgens, including testosterone

19
Q

What is testosterone responsible for?

A

The development of male sex characteristics, sex drive, maintenance of muscle strength

20
Q

What gland releases oestrogen?

A

The ovaries

21
Q

What is oestrogen responsible for?

A

The regulation of female reproductive system including the menstrual cycle and pregnancy

22
Q

Describe in 4 steps how the endocrine system and ANS work together

A
  1. Stressor is received, hypothalamus triggers activity in sympathetic branch, not in normal resting state
  2. Adrenaline is released from the medulla into the bloodstream
  3. Adrenaline triggers physiological changes in target organs
  4. PNS returns to resting state, activities are reduced in the body
