Biomolecules Flashcards
Variable
Something that changes in an experiment.
Independent variable
The variable that is added, changed, or manipulated in an experiment. Recorded on the X-Axis.
A study was done to find its different pencil brands affect assesment results on scantron based assesments. What is the indepentdent variable in this experiment?
The Pencil Brands
A student wanted to determine what brand of dish soap removed the most food when washing dishes. 3 brands of soap were used. What is the independent variable?
The Dish Soap Brands
Dependent Variable
The variable that is measured in the results of the experiment. Recorded on the Y-Axis.
A study was done to find its different pencil brands affect assesment results on scantron based assesments. What is the dependent variable in this experiment?
The Test Results.
A student wanted to determine what brand of dish soap removed the most food when washing dishes. 3 brands of soap were used. What is the dependent variable?
The Amount of Food Removed.
Four groups of rats are massed and then fed identical diets except for the amount of Vitamin A they receive. Each group gets a different amount of Vitamin A. After 3 weeks on the diet, the rat’ masses are measured again to see if there has been a change to the weight. What is the independent variable in this experiment?
The Vitamin A
Control Group
The experimental group that stays the same, never changes and nothing is added to.
Constant Group
The variables that do not change for the duration of the experiment.
X-Axis
The independent variable is recorded on the X-Axis (obviously)
Y-Axis
The dependent variable is recorded on the Y-Axis (obviously)
Lab Safety
Demonstrating safe lab and field practices at all times. Knowing the location and how to use safety equipment. Notifying the the instructor in all or field accidents.
What are the steps to the Scientific Investiongation also known as the Scientific Method?
- Observation 2. Problem 3. Hypothesis 4. Procedure 5. Collect Data 6. Data Analysis 7. Draw a Conclusion
What is the Scientific Method?
A logical, problem-solving technique recognized and utilized by scientists, students, and problem solvers everywhere.
