Biomechanical Movement C4.1/2 Flashcards
What is linear motion?
A force who’s line of application passes through the centre of mass causing the resulting motion to be linear
e.g A ball hit directly in the centre results in linear motion
Linear motion can also be a curved line
Name the three main Scalar Quantities.
Speed
Mass
Distance
What is a scalar quantity?
Scalar quantities only have magnitude
Name the 5 main vector quantities.
Displacement
Velocity
Acceleration
Momentum
Weight
What is a vector quantity?
A vector quantity has magnitude & direction
Define Distance.
The path a body takes as it moves from start to finish. Measured in metres.
Define Displacement.
The shortest route in a straight line from start to finish. Measured in metres.
Is Distance Scalar or Vector?
Scalar
Is displacement vector or scalar?
Vector
An athlete runs 800m what is the displacement and distance?
Distance = 800m
Displacement = 0m
Define Speed. What is the equation for speed?
Speed is the rate of a change in position. Measured in metres per second
Equation: Speed(m/s) = Distance(m)/Time(s)
Define velocity.
How fast a body travels in a certain direction
Is Speed a scalar or vector quantity?
Scalar
Is Velocity a scalar or vector quantity?
Vector
