Biology topic 5 Flashcards
Features of the thylakoid membrane
Folded membrane
Carries chlorophyll and electron carrier proteins
Involved in the light dependant reaction
What is chemiosmosis
Movement of protons from a high to low concentration
Where does the light-dependent reaction occur
In the thylakoid membrane/grana
Features of the light dependent rxn
1st stage of photosynthesis- requires light
light energy + water = ATP and reduced NADP
Election excited to higher energy level- by energy trapped by chlorophyll molecules
Photolysis of water- splitting of water using light
Which products of the LDR is required in LIR
Reduced NADP and ATP
ATP production
Electrons move down transfer chain
Movement of H+ ions from stroma into intermembrane space
H+ move down electrochemical gradient, into stroma
Catalysed by ATP synthase- chemiosmosis
Features of LIR
Occurs in chloroplasts- stroma
Stroma contains enzyme RuBisCo- temp sensitive
Uses CO2, reduced NADP and ATP- produces hexose sugar
ATP hydrolysed- releasing energy
Absorption spectrum
Range of wavelengths of light that a photosynthetic pigment absorbs
Action spectrum
Range of photosynthesis against wavelength of light absorbed
