Biology Paper 2 Amber Flashcards
What is homeostasis?
How to body maintains a stable internal enviroment
Why is homeostasis important?
Cells need to be kept at the right temprature to be efficent
Increasing the efficency of the body
Give some examples of what homestasis controlls?
Body temprature
Blood glucose levels
Your water content
What 3 things work together to maintain a steady body condition?
Receptors
Coordination centers
Effectors
What are exampels of coordinating centers?
Brain
Spinal cord
Pancrease
What is a gamete?
?
What can Meiosis produce?
Gametes
How do you make an gametes?
Meiosis
How many chromosomes to gametes have?
Half the original amount
In humans where does meiosis happen?
The reproductive organs - this is the only place where this happens
What is the first step of meiosis?
It duplicated it’s genetic information forming two armed chromosomes
Each arm of the genetic information is identical to the other arm
The chromosomes then arrange themselfs into pairs
What is the second step of Meiosis?
In the first division in meiosis the chromosome pairs line up in the center of the cell
What is the third step in Meiosis?
The pairs of chromosomes are pulled apart and each new cell has some of the farthers and some of thr mothers chromosomes
What is the forth step in Meiosis?
In a second division the chromosomes line up in the center of each cell agian and the chromosomes are pulled apart
What is the product of meiosis?
You get 4 gametes each with only a single set of chromosoems in them
They ARE NOT GENETICLY IDENTICLE
What happens when 2 gametes fuse together during fertilisation?
The resulting new cell divides by mitosis o create a copy of itself
What normally happens meiosis?
Scince meiosis only happens in the sex cells if the egg has been fertilied by the sperm mitosis starts to happen and an embroy grows
What h appens as an embrey starts to develope?
It’s cells start to differentiate and become specilised
Deffine habitit?
A place where an organism lives
Deffine population?
All the organisms of species living in 1 place
Diffine community?
The population of different species living in a habitat
Abiotic factors?
Non living factors of the enviroment
Biotic factors
Livining factors of the enviroment
Diffine ecoystem?
The interaction of biotic and abiotic factors parts of the enviroment
