Biology- Osmosis (year 9) Flashcards
1
Q
What is osmosis
A
The movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from a region of higher water concentration to a region of a lower water concentration
2
Q
Where do the water molecules pass
A
They pass both ways through the membrane and this happens because water molecules move about randomly all the time
3
Q
What happens when there are more water molecules on one side than on the other
A
There is a steady net flow of water into the region with fewer water molecules.
4
Q
What sort of vegetable is used for the osmosis practical
A
a potato
5
Q
Osmosis is a type of..
A
Diffusion
