Biology Chapter 6 Flashcards
Explain how differences in muscle fibers relate to athletic performance.
Different people’s muscles are naturally composed of different ratios of fast- and slow-twitch fibers, which are good for different types of activities
Explain why photosynthesis is important to most ecosystems.
Because photosynthesis converts inorganic nutrients to organic matter that the rest of the ecosystem can digest.
Define and compare autotrophs and heterotrophs, producers and consumers.
Autotrophs (producers) create their own food from inorganic nutrients, ecosystem depends on their energy input.
Heterotrophs (consumers) draw their food from the environment
Explain how the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration are complementary to each other.
The fuel for photosynthesis (CO2 and H2O) are the waste products of cellular respiration. The fuel for cellular respiration (Oxygen gas) is a waste product of photosynthesis.
