Biology B1 Flashcards
Osmosis
The net random movement of water molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration across a partially permeable membrane.
Diffusion
The net random movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
Active transport
Active transport is the movement of dissolved molecules into or out of a cell through the cell membrane, from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration. The particles move against the concentration gradient, using energy released during respiration.
Resolution
The ability to distinguish between 2 separate points in a photo
Magnification
Magnification is the ability to make small objects seem larger, such as making a microscopic organism visible
Prokaryotic cell
A bacteria cell
Eukaryotic cell
An animal or plant cell
Plasmolyzed
There is more water inside the cell then there is outside the cell so the water moves out the cell
Flacid
Same amount of water inside and outside the cell
Turgid
There is more water outside the cell so the water moves inside the cell
Crenated
There is more water inside the cell then there is outside so the water leaves the cell
Lysis
There is more water outside the cell then there is inside the cell so the water moves into the cell and the cell eventually bursts
