BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY-1 Flashcards
What is Biology
The study of living things
All living things:
-are made of cells
-reproduce
-need energy
-grow and develop
-adapt
-respond the the environment
-are made of CHON
-produce waste
-exchange gases
Define adaptations
features that increase an organisms chances of survival
Define ecosystem
an environment where living things an none living things co-exist
Define Abiotic
the non-living parts of an ecosystem
Define Biotic
The living parts of an ecosystem
Define population
A group of the same species in the same area and food source.
Define community
Populations of different species that live together
Define Species
A groups of organisms that share similar properties and that can reproduce with each-other, and their offspring can reproduce
Define genetic diversity
Differences in a species in a population
What is interdependence
How each species depends on other species and the environment.
Define commensalism
One organism benefits, the other is not harmed or benefited
Define Mutualism
Both benefit
Define parasitism
One benefits, the other is harmed
Define interspecies competition
Different species need the same resource
