Biological Bases: The Nervous System Intro Flashcards
Nervous System Definition
A network of nerve cells and fibres responsible for coordinating actions and movement and transmitting sensory signals
Neurons
The basic building blocks of the NS, involved in the transfer of information around the NS. They take information from the sensory organs to the CNS, and from the CNS to the effectors
Central Nervous System
Is comprised of the brain and spinal cord, and acts as the brain’s processing center, gathering and synthesising sensory information and responding to it
Peripheral Nervous System
Consists of all nerves outside of the CNS, and connects the CNA to limbs and organs, coordinating action and responses by sending signals from one part of the body to another.
