Beta-adrenergic agonists Flashcards
Non-selective Beta 1 ,Beta 2 -agonists
isoprenaline (isoproterenol)
sometimes is used in bradycardia and AV block
Selective Beta 1 -agonists
Dobutamine
used mainly in acute heart failure
Selective Beta 2 -agonists salbutamol (albuterol) orciprenaline (metaproterenol) fenoterol salmeterol (long-acting)
In bronchial asthma,
Selective Beta 2 -agonists
hexoprenaline,
ritodrine
For prevention of preterm labor
Selective Beta 3 agonists : Mirabegron
used in overactive urinary bladder.
The mechanism of action is relaxation of smooth
musles of the urinary bladder (detrusor).
most dangerous adverse effect is increase of the
blood pressure (the mechanism is unknown). So,
it is contraindicated in severe hypertension.
Effects of beta-adrenergic agonists
● increase of heart rate and contractility;
● dilation of vessels (mainly in skeletal muscles)
● slight increase of systolic pressure, decrease of
diastolic and mean blood pressure;
● bronchial dilation;
● decrease of contractility of myometrium
ADVERSE EFFECTS OF BETA ADRENERGIC AGONISTS
Tachycardia, hypotension, tremor
