A
  • USA wanted a united capitalist Germany they could trade with
Soviet union wanted Germany to be we can divide it so it will never attack the Soviet union again
-In 1948 the alliance created a single currency the Deutschmark
This made Stalin mad because it was different to what the west with using
-Stalin was not informed that British and US zones would be joined together he felt US was trying to further divide the rich areas from the poor and felt it broke the Potsdam agreement
-Stalin thought that the Truman doctrine in the US policy of containment could be tested by attack on Berlin
if he blocked the allies links to Berlin than US tanks would force their way through and this would be an act of war
-March 1940 8 USSR walked out of the Allied control committee
