What is ethology?
Ethology is the study of normal behaviour within a normal environment
Why is is important for vets to be able to recognise abnormal behaviours?
Any abnormal behaviour can be indicative of disease in an ostensibly normal animal
What are the four main manifestations of abnormal behaviour?
Aggression
Anxiety
Compulsive
Attention seeking
What is the key to resolving behaviour problems?
Identifying the motivation/cause of the behaviour
What are the two leading causes of behavioural problems in small animals?
Social/environmental
Clinical
How long is the socialisation sensitive period for puppies?
Between 4 - 16 weeks
How long is the socialisation sensitive period for kittens?
Between 3 - 9 weeks
What is the main cause of abnormal behaviour in cats?
Changes in their core territory
