basic skin immunology Flashcards
how is the keratin layer formed?
by terminal differentiation of keratinocytes to corneocytes
whats an overreaction to an antigen?
hypersensitivty
whats a reaction to host tissue causing chronic inflammation?
autoimmunity
whats an infection not controlled meaning tumours may form?
immunodeficiency
where are CD8+T cells usually found?
epidermis
where are CD4+ and CD8+T cells found?
dermis
what helper cell is associated with inflammation?
CD4+TH cells
what TH is associated with psoriasis?
TH1 and TH17
what TH is associated with atopic dermatitis?
TH2 and TH17
what types of dendritic cell are found in. the dermis?
dermal DC and plasmacytoid DC
where are chromosone 6 MHC class I cells found?
almost all cells
where are chromosome 6 MHC class II cells found?
on APC (B cells and macrophages)
what does MHC class I present proteins to?
presents endogeneous Ag to cytotoxic T cells
what does MHC class I present proteins to?
presents exogeneous Ag to TH cells
what mutation causes eczema?
mutation in filaggrin gene (this mutation doesnt always lead to eczema)
what are some primary (genetic) immunodeficiency?
inherited defect
what are some secondary (acquired) example of immunodeficiency?
AIDS
Malignancy
Aging
Diabetes, renal malfunction, burns, alcoholic cirrhosis and malnutrition
what is a type 1 reaction?
- got to do with IgE
- hypersensitivity (allergy)
what is a type II and III reaction mediated by?
IgG and IgM
what is type IV hypersensitivity mediated by?
TH1 cells
