Basic and Additional Principles Of Training Flashcards
What are the FITT principles?
Frequency, intensity, time, type
What is frequency?
Number of training sessions completed over a period of time
What is intensity?
How hard you train. Should gradually increase over time
What is time?
How long you train for
What is type?
Specific training method chosen for the component of fitness you want to improve
What are the additional principles of training?
Specificity, progressive overload, variation, individual needs, adaptation, reversibility, rest and recovery
What is specificity?
Training specific to the indictable needs of the athlete
What is progressive overload?
Make training gradually harder so body gradually improves and adapts
What is adaptation?
Body adapts in response to training. ( getting stronger because of strength training)
What is rest and recovery?
Allows adaptation to take place and to avoid injuries due to fatigue / tiredness
What is reversibility?
Body will reverse back if training is stopped for a prolonged time (illness, injury etc)
What is variation?
Training must be varied in order to avoid boredom
