Basal nuclei Flashcards
Termed as the 3 major nuclei of the basal nuclei.
Corpus striatum
3 major nuclei in corpus striatum
- caudate nucleus
- putamen
- globus pallidus
2 nuclei in striatum
Putamen and caudate nucleus
2 nuclei in lentiform nucleus
Putamen and globus pallidus
Tract which connects the basal ganglia and midbrain
Nigrostriatal tract
Large collections of neurons in the depths of cerebral hemispheres
Basal ganglia
Nontelencephalic nuclei concerned with motor functions which often included with the basal ganglia
- subthalamic nucleus
- red nucleus
- substancia nigra
A neurotransmitter controlling involuntary movements in the cns.
Dopamine
Effects of dopamine to the body
Positive inotropic and chronotropic effects on the heart which elevates blood pressure
Large collections of beurons located at the depth of cerebral hemisphere
Basal ganglia
Give the nontelencephalic nuclei concerened with motor function
- subthalamic
- substancia nigra
- red nucleus
What are the afferent fibers which projects to basal ganglia
- thalamo-striatal fibers (thalamus - largely from intalaminar and centromedial nucelus)
- corticostriatal fibers (cerebral cortex)
- nigrostriatal fibers (substancia nigra)
Where does the afferent fibers terminate? (Almost but not all)
Striatum
Neurotransmitter involve in the cerebral cortex to striatum pathway
GLutamate
Almost efferent fibers terminate in this nucleus
Globus pallidus
