why was a seccond adaptation the study carried out?-
- influence of the media on behaviour
- a recent incident where a boys was serious knifed during a re-enactment of a scene from the movie a rebel without a cause demonstrated the possible influence of the media on behaviour.
what several hypotheses were said about this study?
- the more remote the media was from reality the less likely the participants would be to mimic the behaviour
- males would immitate more aggressive behaviour than females
- ## those with anxiety regarding aggression would display less aggressive behaviour
how many boys and girls were used in this study?
48 boys and 48 girls
where were the participants from?
Stanford nursery school
what was the age range of the ptps ?
35-69 months
how many models were present?
two adults male and female and the human-film agression condition.
what design was used?
matched pairs design.
how were the ptps divided?
divided into three experimental groups and one control group (24 in each group)
what three experimental conditions were there?
- real-life aggressive models
- same models but on a film - human
- aggressive cartoon characters.
- they were then divided into same sex and opposite sex models.
what was the control group?
24 ptps were not exposed to any aggressive model,.
what did the real life condition do?
- same as bandura ross and ross 1961
what was the human-film condition?
they were guided into a semi-darkened room and left to play with picture prints on a table 6ft away from a tv that played the film which was ten mins long this was left to play well the experimenter left.
what was the cartoon conditon?
- semi-darkened room
- playing on a tabel 3ft away from the TV and as the experimenter walked over to the TV he says “i guess i’ll turn the colour TV on”
- the cartoon was a black cat in a colourful fantasyland where he displayed aggressive behaviour to the bobodoll.
how were the participants aggressively stimulated
the same as experiment 1
what happened after the exposure to aggressive arousal?
they were taken to another room and observed for 20 mins through a one-way mirror and their behaviour was recorded in 5 sec intervals
