what was the aim?
wanted to test the idea that watching film aggression might be cathartic-vents aggressive emotions
what was the procedure?
-same as 1961 experiment:
-3 rooms -1 saw aggressive film-1 saw woman dressed as cartoon cat and saw aggressive behaviour
-placed in another room to play with toys-told not for them
taken to another room with bobo dolls and other toys
what was the results?
- control group-carried out half as much aggression than other groups
- no significant difference between action and cartoon
- children shocked at aggressive male model-‘that girl…was asking just like a man’
what was the conclusion?
children will imitate filmed aggression in same way live aggressive role models
-watching film violence is not cathartic-became more aggressive after watching film
