What are the uses of bandaging?
A
- Retention- to keep the wound clean and retain medicine, ice, POP
- Support - to stabilise injured area, and to prevent further injuries
- Compression- to reduce swelling or bleeding a d to encourage circulation

What are the principles for application of bandaging?
A
- Communicate with the patient
- Establish precautions or contraindications
- Get things ready
- Wash your hands
- Make sure the patient is in a comfortable position
- Make sure application is neat
- Functional bandage performance

A
- Active infection
- severe peripheral arterial disease
- cardiogenic oedema
- pulmonary embolus
- recent thrombophlebitis
- allergies to bandaging materials
- severe skin infections
- diabetic microangiopathy
- congestive heart failure
- decreased sensation
- metastatic disease

What are the signs of the bandaging being too tight?
A
- coldness of the extremity
- tingling or loss of sensation
- blue or pale skin colour
- inability to move fingers
