Describe the pedal, sequences and suspensions in bars 1-4
Pedal- The first 5 times the motif appears it starts in the tonic (C) which acts as a tonic pedal
Sequences- The motif is sequenced down a step after the first 5 times it’s played
Suspensions- 7-6 suspension (bar 1), 7-6 (bar 3), 4-3 (bar 4)
Describe the intervals and dissonances in bars 1-4
Intervals- Some angular intervals (major 7th and augmented 4th)
Dissonances- The bass pedal in bar 2
Describe the keys and how Bach modulates in bars 1-4
Bar 1.2 = F-G
Bar 4 = perfect cadence in G
He always uses a pivot chord to modulate

The viola plays a continuous quaver tonic pedal
The violins play a quaver followed by a quaver rest pattern until they play quavers

The solo violin reprises bar 9-14 sequenced up a note with the introduction of a continuo lead in (bar 28) played in Dm and Am

Bar 29- The reprise returns for one and a half bars moving from Dm to Am
Bar 30- The next solo starts and lasts for six and a half bars which is sequenced in later bars

The first 2 bars are repeated then the soloist has a three bar three beat period followed by a chromatic passage in C. The final reprise happens with a slightly different harmony and the solo violin embellishes the final reprise and there are a few sequences until a final cadence in C
