B9 Flashcards
Aerobic respiration
Requires oxygen
Occurs in mitochondria
Produces a lot of ATP per glucose monocle
Used when heart rate + breathing rate rise
Anaerobic respiration
Occurs in cytoplasm of the cells
Doesn’t require oxygen
Used during first part of exercise
Less ATP produced
What do your muscles store glucose as
Glycogen
What is the end product of anaerobic respiration.
Lactic acid
Oxygen debt
Waste lactic acid leads to oxygen debt due to glucose not being able to break them down so your heart beats faster to help it
What does the liver do
Glucose
Bile
Removes lactic acid
Breakdown alcohol
Where does aerobic respiration mainly take place
Mitochondria
Equation for aerobic respiration
Glucose + oxygen – carbon dioxide + water
Equation for anaerobic respiration
Glucose - lactic acid
Main metabolic reactions
The conversion of glucose to starch, glycogen and cellulose
Reactions of respiration
Reactions of photosynthesis
Main differeces between anaerobic and aerobic respiration
Aerobic requires oxygen, occurs in mitrochondria and a lot of ATP is produced
Anaerobic respiration occurs in the cytoplasm of cells, no oxygen , and less ATP is produced
What do plants change glucose into
Starch
What do mammals change glucose into
Glycogen
