B7+B8 Flashcards
Non - communicable diseases
Caused by pathogens but cannot be passed on to one and other
Impact of non communicable diseases
If spread can cause a-lot of money on the government it also means that their is a higher proportion needing medical attention, straining the health services
Types of cancer
Benign
Malignant
Benign
Abnormal growths that is contained in the cell membrane
Malignant tumours cells
Can spread around the body, invading neighbouring healthy tissues
Smoking during pregnancy affects
Oxygen shortage, and can mean the mother is carrying higher amounts of carbon monoxide, this affects the baby as it will have growth problems and even stillbirths
Affect of smoking in the cilia
Can get anethestised by some of the chemicals in smoking. Creates mucus
Strong risk factor for type 2 diabetes
Obesity
Smoking caused diseases
Cardiovascular diseases - coronary heart disease , lung cancer and lung diseases such as bronchitis and COPD
How does diet affects your risk of developing cardiovascular disease
Cholesterol levels + indirectly through obesity
What damage can Alcohol do to the liver
Cirrhosis and liver cancer
What happens if you drink during a pregnancy
The baby doesn’t develop properly
Equation for Photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H2O—–C6H12O6 + 6O2
Light
Leaf adaptions for photosynthesis
Big surface are for light to touch
Thin so diffusion is shorter
Chlorophyll to absorb light
Air spaces to let co2 get in
What type of reaction is photosynthesis
Endothermic
What affects the rate of photosynthesis
Light , Temperature, carbon dioxide concentration
What uses glucose from photosynthesis to respire
Plants and algae cells - convert into insoluble starch to strengthen the walls and then amino acids for protein synthesis
Inverse square law
Inverse square law is inversely proportional to the square of the distance, when the distance from the light increases the intensity is equal to 1/d2
How can you reduce fatty deposits building up on your coronary arteries
Regular exercise
