B8 - Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
6CO²+6H²O -> C6H12O6 -> 6O²
What kind of reaction is photosynthesis?
Endothermic because it takes an input of energy from the environment
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water -> glucose + oxygen
What is photosynthesis?
The process that plants make food using carbon dioxide water and light
What are the 3 factor that can affect the rate of photosynthesis?
Intensity of light, conc of CO2 and temperature.
When might the temperature be a limiting factor?
In the winter
Name 3 adaption of a leaf that help when photosynthesizing ?
Leaves are broad therefore there’s a larger surface area
Leaves are thin so the diffusion distances are shorter
Lots of chlorophyll in the chloroplasts to absorb light
If there is high intensity will the rate continue to grow?
Only to a certain point as CO² or temperature becomes a limiting factor
What happens if the plants get too hot?
The enzymes will be damaged
What happens if the plant is too cold?
The enzymes will work much slower
What are 3 ways do plants use glucose?
Making cellulose for plant cell walls
Making amino acid for protein
Respiration
In the RP, what is the dependant variable?
Number of bubbles produced per minute
What is the control variable?
Same conc of sodium hydrogen-carbonate and using the same pondweed
Whats the independent variable?
The distance of the lamp
How do we know if there is starch present in a leaf?
It would turn a blue/black colour after adding iodine solution
