B8 - Photosynthesis Flashcards
1
Q
what is the word equation for photosynthesis
A
carbon dioxide + water –> glucose + oxygen
2
Q
what type of reaction is photosynthesis
A
endothermic reaction becuase its transfered to the enviroment
3
Q
why is photosynthesis carried out
A
carried out by plants and algae to form ‘food’ in the form of glucose
4
Q
how do plants use glucose
A
- can be used in respiration to release energy
- some glucose is converted into starch for storage. Starch is compact and insoluble. This means that it does not cause cells to gain or lose water by osmosis.
- some glucose is converted into cellulose, which strengthens cell walls. Some is converted into fats and oils, which are often used as energy storage in seeds
5
Q
what can effect the rate of photosynthesis
A
- temperature
- level of carbon dioxide
- light intensity
- amount of chlorophyll in the plant
6
Q
what is a limiting factor in photosynthesis
A
that stops photosynthesis from happening faster
7
Q
what is inverse proportion
A
is when one variable increases as the other one decreases at the same rate
8
Q
what is the required practical for the plant and lamp equation for light intensity
A
light intensity = 1/ d2
