What is a communicable disease?
A disease that can be spread from person to person caused by pathogens
What is a non-communicable disease?
A disease which is not spread from person to person
What is a casual mechanism?
Something that explains how one factor of a disease affects another factor
What is a pathogen?
A micro-organism that causes disease
What are the main types of pathogens?
Bacteria, virus, fungi and protists
What are the 4 ways that Pathogens can be spread?
- Transmission by air
- Transmission by water
- Transmission by animals
- Transmission by contact
How does Bacteria grow?
By BINARY FISSION where the bacteria splits in two
What is a mineral ion defficiency in plants?
When plants have a defficiency due to lacking in one or more minerals
What are the main ways that microbes can enter the human body?
Eyes, ears, nose, lungs, skin, stomach, genitals
What are the 2 different types of first line defence in the human body?
Chemical defenses and Physical defenses
What is the second line of defence in the human body?
Our white blood cells attacking the microbe/disease
