Q

State 4 reasons why water is important for plants.

A
  1. Needed for photosynthesis
  2. When water evaporates, has a cooling effect on the plant
  3. Water enters the cells by osmosis, making cells turgid/firm- to support the plant
  4. Transports dissolved minerals

Q

How do plants control water loss?

A

Waxy cuticle on upper and lower surface of leaf- does not let water evaporate

Very few stomata on upper and lower surface of leaf.

Stomata closes at night (when photosynthesis is not occuring)- water loss is reduced.
