B4.8 Plant Structure Flashcards
Groups of similar cells work together as a __________.
Tissue
Group of different tissues work together as an ___________.
Organ
Name two major tissues that are found in the vascular bundles.
Xylem and phloem
What are the two major functions of vascular bundles?
Transport and support
Define xylem
Plant tissue made up of dead cells that has the functiom of transporting water and dissolved substances through the plant
Define phloem
Plant tissue made up of living cells that has the function of transporting food substances through the plant
In the root, where are the vascular bundles located? What does this help do?
In the centre of the root. Helps the root act like an anchor, allowing it to bend as the plant moves
In the stem, where are the vascular bundles located? What do they help do?
Located around the outer edge of the stem. Provides strength to prevent bending
What do the vascular bundles in the leaf do?
Forms a network which supports the softer leaf tissues.
