Define family?

how can being a part of a family help development?

What is a family dysfunction?
A family that is not providing all the support and benefits associated with being in a family.
What can cause a dysfunctional family?
Stress - poor housing, low income, mental health issues
Poor parenting skills
Controlling, aggressive, manipulative family members
Neglecting children
How can dysfunction families disadvantage children?
- poor nutrition
- poor hygeine
- lack of socialisation
- lack of emotional support
- creates cycle of dysfunction
- inablilty to trust/form a relationship
Impacts of divorce/separation around children?

- Jealousy
- low self-esteem
- emotional distress
- lack of trust in relationships
- risk-taking behaviour (smoking/drinking/alcohol)
- underachievement in school
Reasons why children may bully their siblings?
(3 detailed examples)
- Parents comparing their children can often lead to jealousy and rivalry which can cause aggression and the children to bully.
- If a child is constantly exposed to high levels of family conflict, they may internalise this and take their aggression out on their siblings.
- Jealousy ; the child may be jealous of their siblings getting more attention from their parents which may lead to the child becoming aggressive and taking it out on their siblings.
What are the different types of parenting styles? and explain them?
Authoritative; parents are not overly strict but children are brought up to respect authority.
Permissive; parents make few demands and may be reluctant to implement rules or values. Children have a lack of self-control and no set boundaries.
Authoritarian; parents have very high expectations, often overwhelming their children with strict rules. Children may become rebellious.
Describe the uninvolved parenting styles and how it can impact their children?
- parents make few demands or responses, as they are unaware of the power they hold over their children.

Give reasons why someone may be bullied?

What are the effects of bullying?

- children may feel unsafe, lonely, isolated, withdrawn and lose self-confidence
- young people and adults may self-harm as a way of releasing their emotional pain.
- Could lead to suicidal thoughts or suicide.
Examples of culture/religion/beliefs affect medical intervention?
Jehovah’s witness - cannot accept blood.
Some cultures do not believe in medical intervention and may use their own remedies.
What are the Kosher dietary requirements?
- No diary + meat together
- No seafood
- No pork
- Only eat Kosher animals
What are Hindu + Sikh’s dietary requirements?
- vegetarian
- only eat meat if it has been ritually slaughtered
What are Muslim’s dietary requirements?
- No pork
- No non-halal meats
- No alcohol
- No animals that aren’t slaughtered in the name of God.
