B10 Required Practical - Reaction Time Flashcards
What equipment will you need
Meter ruler
Some type pf distraction eg caffinated drink.
What are the independent variables?
Distractions (tiredness, alcohol, other drugs)
What is the Dependent variable
Reaction time
What are the Controlled variables
The same ruler, time of day, person
What is the method
One person holds the ruler so that the 0cm mark imbetween where the second persons fingers are
Withought a warning the 1st student drops the ruler and the second student needs to use his fingers to catch the ruler.
You do this 3 times and calcuate the avarage.
You then have a caffinated drink and wait 2-5 minutes
You then repeate the experiment again and record the results.
You may plot this in a pie graph or bar chart
What are the results?
The reaction time withought any caffinated drinks are faster than the reaction time after the caffinated drinks.
What is the conclusion if you got the results
No caffine. After caffine
0.2 seconds. 0.4 seconds
In conclusion after having a caffinated dink your reaction time is slower. Withough caffine the reaction time was 0.2 seconds but with caffine it increased by 100% to 0.4 seconds. You can see that the caffinated drinks significantly impacted the reaction time.
Has the experiment god a good valicity
.
Has the experiment got a good repeatibility
.
How could you improve the accuracy of the experiment.
Instead of using a ruler you could use a computer program. Thos will record your results more accuratly and to a higher precision.
Are there any ethical concernes?
If you are young it could be unethical to have a caffinated drink especially if you don’t have the persons concent.
