Q

animal cells

A
  • nucleus (contains DNA, in the form of chromosomes)
  • cytoplasm (where chemical reactions take place)
  • mitochondria (site of cellular respiration- contains enzymes)
  • cell membrane (holds cell together, selective barrier- receptor molecules used for cell communication)

Plant cells

A
  • rigid cell wall (made of cellulose- support for the cell)
  • chloroplasts (where photosynthesis occurs, contains green substance named chlorophyll)
  • permanent vacuole

Q

prokaryotic cells - features

A
  • chromosomal DNA- one long chromosome, controls cells activity/ replication. Floats free in the cytoplasm.
  • plasmids, small loops of extra DNA that aren’t part of the chromosome. contains genes for drug resistance etc.
  • cell membrane- controls what goes in and out.
    supported by a cell wall.

Q

light microscopes

A
  • eyepiece lens, magnifies image
  • objective lens, magnifies the image, normally three different lenses.
  • stage, supports the slide.
  • clip, holds the slide in place.
  • handle, carry microscope.
  • lamp, shines light, improves clarity.
  • focusing knobs, move stage up and down.
