B - The Remote Indicating Compass (05-06-18) Flashcards
What is the purpose of the remote indicating compass?
It combines the long term accuracy of the DRMC with the short term accuracy of the DGI
What is the flux valve of a RIC?
A component which is pendulously pivoted at a point along the span of the tailplane, that is able to measure the actual magnetic direction of the aircraft.
How is the flux valve mounted?
On a hooks joint with a 2 way hinge.
it is fixed in azimuth (yaw)
What are the maneouvre limits for the flax valve of a RIC?
+/- 25deg in roll or pitch
What are the errors associated with a RIC?
All small enough to not cause concern:
Accelleration
Turning
Attitude
Deviation (however much less than a DRMC)
What is the process that slaves the heading of a RIC to magnetic heading and what is the slave rate?
Flux gate on wing measures actual mag hdg
coils and wires take current to error detector inside instrument
if the error detector detects an error then a signal is sent to an amplifier
The amplifier sends a current to a precession motor which turns the gyro.
slave rate is 3deg/min
What is a way to slave a RIC quicker when quicker?
A high gain amplifier option which slaves at 60deg/min
What is the primary function of the annunciator in a RIC?
Tells you if there is an error due to showing you any current flow to the torque motor.
How can an annunciator show a failure in a RIC slaving system?
The needle remains perfectly still.
