B - Artificial horizon/attitude indicator (05-06-18) Flashcards
What is the orientation of the gyro in an AI?
Vertical with respect to the earth
Which direction should be assumed for the spin of th gyro in an AI?
Anti-clockwise when viewed from above
How is the gyro tied to the earth in an air driven AI?
With pendulous vanes that direct airflow in a way to create a force that is precessed in a way that realigns the gyro.
How is the gyro kept in alignment when stopped?
A weighted rotor housing causes CG to be below the pivot point
What error in indication will occur in an AI during an acceleration?
A climbing right turn
What error in indication will occur during a deceleration in an AI?
A descending left turn.
What error in indication will occur during a right turn on an AI?
Pitch up with under read AoB for 180deg then over read AoB
What error in indication will occur during a left turn on an AI?
Pitch down with under reading AoB for 180deg then over read AoB
How is an electrically driven AI gyro kept erect?
With 2 mercury levelling switches along with 2 mercury cut out switches to ensure instrument wont just align with aircraft.
What are the manoeuvring limits for an air driven AI?
+/- 60deg in pitch
+/- 110deg in roll
What are the manoeuvring limits for an electric driven AI?
+/- 85deg in pitch
no limit in roll
