1) Daily records of work and rest schedules are posted in an easily accessible location
a. They should reflect the actual work arrangements
2) Minimum Rest Hours are as follows:
a. 10 Hours in a 24 hour period.
i. Composed of not more than two periods, one of which is >6 hours. Interval between rest periods must not exceed 14 hours.
b. 77 Hours Rest in any 7 -day period
3) Rest Hours may extend beyond this in cases of emergency or overriding circumstances.
What is Masters Responsibility with Pilot on Board?
Nav Act 2012: Article 410B Civil Liability in Relation to A Vessel Under Pilotage
1) Pilot who has conduct is subject to the authority of the master, master is not relieved of his responsibility for the navigation of the ship.
2) The owner or master of a ship navigating where pilotage is compulsory, is responsible for any loss or damage and navigation, as he would be if pilotage were not compulsory.
3) The pilot is not liable for any damage caused by the vessel because of his actions or instruction given in good faith and in the course of the pilots duty

Instruct him to follow standard passage planning principles of Appraisal Planning Execution Monitoring Recording / Updating
Follow the Vessels SMS passage planning procedure
Ensure he has completed ECDIS Familiarisation checklist, Type Approval training.
Go through critical areas such as pilotage on the ECDIS with him

Ensure that any Local Pilotage Passage Plans are incorporated onto our ECDIS so that we are sharing the same passage plan as the Pilot.
