Q

Each B cell can produce how many BCR’s

A

Only one- can only produce one antibody
One B cell, One B cell receptor, one specific epitope

Q

What is the main immunoglobulin that fights off invaders in blood stream? What happens if this is low in the blood stream?

A

-IgG
-If low, this is a red flag- means they can’t fight off infections. Immediate consult to immunology

Q

Which immunoglobulin passes from placenta of mom to fetus

A

IgG- only one from innate immunity
- For patients who can’t make antibodies, supplement with replacement

13
Q

What does a low serum IgA mean?

A

Its normal! IgA should not be in serum- it is in sinus, resp serfaces, and ear.
- If pt has lots of sinus infections/resp tract infections, could be a problem. BUT, probably not problem for IgA without other history.

14
Q

What are 2 concerns with low IgA

A
  1. They don’t make it and their body isn’t making it.
  2. Their antibodies are attacking IgA, so if they get a blood transfusion it’ll be immediate anaphlaxis, as their antibodies fight it and that’s why its a low level.

16
Q

Which immunoglobulin is least abundent

A

IgE

17
Q

After the first exposure, explain MOA for IgE allergy

A
  1. Mast cell binds to IgE(stays bound)
  2. Allergen binds to IgE on mast cell
  3. Mast cell degranulates and causes allergic reaction through immune system
18
Q

Why are people developing allergies?

A

-We don’t know- not specific gene, not clear reason
-Hypothesis: immune system not exposed enough

19
Q

Why do you introduce peanuts early to babies orally

A
  • You desensatize the baby to a food orally early on instead of through the skin or in a situation where it’s seen as a concern
20
Q

What pathogen does IgE kill and relates to

A

Parasites

21
Q

Plasma vs Memory B cells

A

plasma: produces antibodies
memory:long lived memory cells
