Axial Skeleton Facial bones Flashcards
zygomatic bones
bony prominence of the cheeks. Contribute to the zygomatic arch and the lateral margin of the orbits
this injury was associated with fractured zygoma
hematoma of the eye (black eye)
Tear ducts
these drain just inferior to the inferior nasal conchae
contribute to the roof of the nasal cavity
nasal bones
vomer
contributes to the inferior portion of the nasal septum
covered with highly vascular moist mucous membrane
inferior nasal conchae
Left and right palatine bones
form the posterior third of the hard palate, a portion of the nasal cavity and a portion of the orbits
maxillae
form the upper jaw
sockets where the teeth are located
alveoli
form the front 2/3 of the hard palate
palatine process of the maxillae
where is the infraorbital foramen located and what is it for
just bellow the eyes in the maxilae
allows passage of a nerve and blood vessels
Cleft palate
malunion of 2 sides of maxilae
occurs in early development
folic acid helps reduce the chance of a cleft palate
where do the maxillary sinuses drain
high up on the medial side of the sinus and drain into nasal cavity.
This causes poor drainage and can more easily lead to infection
how to notice a maxillary sinus fracture
crepitus (a crunchy feeling)
orbital blow out fracture
fracture in the floor of the orbit and its muscles may drop down into the upper portion of the maxillary sinus
