16
Q

How does the engine anticipate pilot input to maintain rotor speed?

A

LVDTs fitted to collective

Linear Variable Differential Transducer

17
Q

What happens to the fuel flow during a red EEC FAIL CAS?

A

FCM valve maintains present position and allows use of ECLs

18
Q

Can you manually control fuel flow?

A

Yes

Put governors in MAN and use the GOV trim stitches on either collective

19
Q

What is the purpose of load sharing?

A

The EECs adjust the engines to match either TQ or ITT

normal selection is TQ

20
Q

Where is load sharing displayed in the cockpit?

A

Above the PI

TQ or ITT

21
Q

What does the torque limiter do?

A

Prevents torque above 114%

protects the gearbox

22
Q

What happens when you raise the collective when the Tq limiter reaches its limits?

A

NR will droop until 87% , then the limiter will turn off.

23
Q

Does the Tq limiter go off if more power is required?

A

Yes, when NR hits 87%

24
Q

If selected on, does the Tq limiter go off when OEI?

A

YES

25
Q

How many fuel nozzles and igniters are there?

A

14 Fuel nozzles (7 dual, 7 single)

2 Igniters

26
Q

Can you start an engine manually?

A

YES

Section 3 of RFM

27
Q

Can you select the engine to idle in flight if an autorotation procedure is required during training?

A

NO

28
Q

Does the engine have a chip detector?

A

YES - near accessories section

29
Q

How does the engine cool?

A

Air - 60% of primary air & 8% of secondary air

30
Q

How does the engine oil cool?

A

Fuel-oil heat exchanger

31
Q

How do we check the engine oil level?

A

Sight glass on each side of engine?

32
Q

Describe the engine Fire protection & Detection

A

Detection:

  1. Detects high temp (hot gas leak) by Helium gas heating up, expanding and setting off the high px switch.
  2. Detects fire by the core material releasing helium, which again expands and sets off the high px switch.
  3. A fault is detected if the helium hydrogen gas escapes setting off the low px switch.

Protection:
Two halon fire bottles

33
Q

What is the fire procedure in flight?

A

Use the QRH…

34
Q

What happens when you select the engine bay selector push button on the extinguisher panel?

A
  1. Fuel is cut off to the engine via the SOV
  2. Heater is cut off via heater SOV
  3. Arms the relevant fire bottle squibs for the engine bay
