When does the altimeter “off” flag come on?
- No power (26v fixed AC system)
- During a ADC test
- No ADC input (ADC has failed or no signal to gauge)
What provides data input to the main altimeters?
The Air Data Computer
What are the airspeed indicators driven by?
A direct feed from pitot pressure and static lines
What is the input to the standby altimeter?
Alternate static only

What does a green “basic” light on the APIRS controller indicate? What would you do in flight?
Fiber optic gyros not receiving a TAS input, therefore it will behave like a conventional gyro, and will have drift/acceleration errors.
To fix - engage ATT REV button on controller, which then uses attitude information from the opposite AHRU.
What does ATT 2 in amber on the captain’s side EADI mean?
ATT 1(AHRU) has failed.
Attitude information being provided by F/O AHRU (2).
Will “basic” mode ever Illuminate in flight?
Only if both AHRU’s fail.
Information automatically generated from opposite side AHRU in flight.
The green light will illuminate once on the ground/after landing however.
What does the SLAVE light on the APIRS controller indicate? What should you do in flight?
No information being received by the flux valve on that side.
Press HDG REV button.
Will the compass indicate correctly when the aircraft is unpowered?
No
They are calibrated to be accurate with all aircraft systems operating normally so will indicate abnormally without aircraft power.
What is the indication of a symbol generator failure?
All 3 screens on that side go blank, or a full screen of red x’s
What is the corrective action after a symbol generator failure?
REV button above EADI
What does it mean it’s one screen goes blank? How do you enter composite mode on the working screen?
The screen has failed.
Turning that screen off using the rotary knob on the display control panel will automatically activate composite mode.
What flap setting is approved for approaches with a glideslope of greater than 3°?
Flap 15° only.
The ARTEX ELT beacon transmits on what frequencies and for how long?
- 5mhz and 243mhz for 72 hours
406. 025mhz for 24 hours
What 3 things is the alternate static connected to?
Alternate static selection valve
Standby altimeter
Cabin altitude controller
Where do the ADC’S get power from?
L and R main buses respectively
Where are the flux detection units (FDU’S) found?
In the wingtips
How long will it take for the APIRS systems take to align on the ground and in the air?
60 seconds on the ground,
90 seconds in the air
Push ATT/HDG align button for 2 seconds to start alignment.
Flags will go out once the test is complete.
Where do the Captain’s and F/O’s EHSI get heading information from?
Capt (1) from number 1 APIRS system
F/O (2) from number 2 APIRS system
Where do the Captain’s and F/O’s RMI’s get info from?
Opposite side APIRS systems
When will the HSI HDG MISMATCH warning come on?
When HDGs are more than 6° apart between each system
Will the HSI HDG MISMATCH warning come on if both systems are in DG mode and the headings are incorrect?
No, provided there is less than 6° between systems
Will the Vmo pointer change automatically with altitude increase?
Yes. Linked to ADC
When will the altimeter chime?
1000ft to go, Light also comes on.
Light goes out at 250ft to go
How would you bring up a TAS and where would it show?
Push the TAS button above the EADI, will show on the advisory display for 7 seconds
What pitch/attitude will the autopilot automatically set if G/A mode selected?
9 degrees pitch up, wings level
What are the power sources for the APIRS systems?
Captains side uses L ESS bus and R ESS as backup
F/O side uses R MAIN and L ESS as backup
What does MAG2 indicate when on the EHSI
Number 1/L flux valve has failed and fux valve 2 is the only source of magnetic information
What is the indication of a mode capture by the AFCS?
White (armed mode) moves down to bottom line of advisory display and turns green (reverse video with star, then normal with star then just green)
How many FGC’s are there?
2
How do you select between FGC’s?
Using the L/R AFCS buttons on the advisory displays
What function is controlled by the HSI SEL button?
Determines the EHSI and ADC being used for control the FGC
How can the auto pilot be disengaged?
Red disconnect button on the yoke, pressing the AP button on the FGC panel, by pressing the G/A button on the P/L’s, when stick shaker activates. Disconecting Y/D.
What happens to the Auto pilot if the active FGC fails?
Auto switch to other system
Will the TCS button disconnect the autopilot?
No
When does the FDR record?
Weight off Wheels switch or when Anti-collision lights are on
When does the CVR record?
When ESS bus has power
What kind of gyroscope controls each FGC?
Fiber optic gyro
Where do the ADC’s get power from?

What does DG mode do and how will it affect the AFCS
Allows you to manually select the current HDG if incorrect or to match both sides together (eg HSI HDG MISMATCH).
AFCS will follow whatever is selected on HSI SEL side regardless.
What height is latest AP disconnect height for and NPA and a PA
200ft NPA
100ft PA with dual mode
For approaches with an angle of more than 3 degrees, what flap setting is approved?
15 degrees only
